
Zach Mathes is native of Charleston, West Virginia. Zach received his B.M. from Oberlin Conservatory and M.M. from Sam Houston State University. He then moved to Pittsburgh to pursue an Artist Diploma from Duquesne University where he studied with, Ed Stephan, Chris Allen, and John Soroka. Zachary was appointed Principal Timpanist of the Billings Symphony Orchestra and Chorale in the spring of 2017. He has also performed with the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Butler County Symphony Orchestra, Brevard Music Center Orchestra and across the United States and Europe, in addition to appearing with local new music group NAT28. His other primary teachers have included Michael Rosen, John Lane, Chip Ross, and Ken Tackett.
